Pestilence

“I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.”

Taipei - Taiwan said Saturday said it had destroyed close to 1,000 goats after an outbreak of goat pox on four farms and central and western regions of the island.

The first case was discovered on April 9, prompting the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine to inspect all goat farms in the country and restrict the movement of the animals.

Goat pox, a highly contagious disease characterized by fever, ocular and nasal discharges and lesions on the skin, is deadly among young animals but cannot infect humans.

A previous outbreak of goat pox was reported in Taiwan in 2008.
